PTG Meeting Notes
8/24/10
Present: Beth Choquette, Principal; Jessica Bugbee, Rachel Vadnais, Trisha Carlson, Katie Sarkis, Marilyn Honig, Jen Belisle.
Opening: The PTG took a few moments to remember Marcie O’Neill. Marcie gave so much to our school and to the PTG. She will be missed.
Financial: $1,336.00
New Officers: President: Beth Choquette/Jessica Bugbee, Treasurer: Rachel Vadnais, Secretary: Beth Choquette/Marilyn Honig.
Meeting Notes: From now on, the meeting notes will be posted in the front lobby of the school and on the website. I will also email them to the PTG email tree. If you are interested in being on the email list, please let the school know. PTG events will also be in the monthly newsletter.
Opening Day: Marilyn Honig and Trisha Carlson will get goodies for each classroom on opening day.
The school’s focus this year will be the 4 R’s and bullying prevention. The staff will be holding community celebrations each week. A different classroom will be responsible for leading off the celebration. Students will be recognized weekly for good citizenship. The PTG discussed having a picture board for students who get caught Being Respectful, Being Responsible, Being Reasonable, and Being Reliable.
Open House: This year’s open house is scheduled for September 15th at 6:00 p.m.
Walk to School Day: This year’s walk is scheduled for October 6th. This year we will have each classroom walk as a group with their teacher. Each class will be asked to make a banner to carry that encourages walking safety or biking safety. Healthy snacks will be provided back at the school. Jessica Bugbee will talk with the fire department about that day. Beth Choquette will talk with Sheila Lawrence about getting the Bennington County Sheriff’s Department in town. Jessica Bugbee will try to get the Walk to School Banner for us.
Fire Prevention Week: This year’s fire prevention week is from October 3rd- 9th. Beth Choquette will talk to Bob Costine about getting the smoke house for the students. The fire department will come to school on the walk to school day to do a presentation to all of our students.
Ropes Course: The PTG will send this year’s 7th/8th graders to the North Adams Ropes Course. Beth Choquette will get in touch with John LeClair to schedule it. The North Adams Ropes Course is free. They ask that a teacher or school representative be involved in the summer program which would allow for Stamford students to attend the summer camp. They also asked that we help fundraise for them.
Fundraising: The PTG will be selling pies and Little Ceasar’s Pizza Kits this fall. They will also sell the pies at the craft fair and do a raffle.
Jen Belisle is looking into t-shirt prices for a fundraiser.
Beth Choquette will ask the 8th grade students if they are interested in babysitting during meetings again.
Katie Sarkis will take care of the message board out front again this year.
We Need Your Help: We know that it is difficult to make evening meetings, but the PTG does need your help. There are many programs and fundraisers that the PTG sponsors for our kids. When there are only a few people at the meetings organizing these activities, it makes it extremely difficult. If you can’t make the meetings but can help out please let us know so that we can continue to provide wonderful experiences for our students. PTG meetings are the last Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Thank you for your support.
